More Companies Are Seeking Capital, but Banks Are Not Broadly Loosening Standards

August 4, 2026 | Fasty Funding News & Media

New Federal Reserve data shows that demand for commercial and industrial loans increased among large and middle-market companies during the second quarter of 2026. Banks, however, did not broadly relax the core standards they use to approve business borrowers.

The Federal Reserve’s July 2026 Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey found stronger demand for commercial and industrial loans from large and middle-market companies, while demand from small businesses remained generally unchanged.

Banks reported that their fundamental credit standards also remained basically unchanged across companies of all sizes. Certain lending terms improved, including narrower loan spreads and greater credit-line availability for some larger borrowers, but businesses must still satisfy established underwriting requirements.

For business owners, the message is clear: more companies are seeking capital, but increased demand does not automatically make financing easier to obtain.

Lenders continue to evaluate cash flow, leverage, liquidity, collateral, credit, industry conditions, management experience and the intended use of proceeds. Companies should approach the market with a clearly defined request, current financial information and a realistic understanding of the financing structures available to them.

Traditional bank financing remains appropriate for many borrowers. Other businesses may require working capital, asset-based credit, equipment financing, revenue-based financing, acquisition financing, bridge capital or another alternative structure.

Fasty Funding provides nationwide business funding for established operators seeking capital for working capital, inventory, equipment, growth, acquisitions and other operating requirements.

Businesses seeking between $250,000 and $5 million can review Fasty Funding’s Nationwide Business Capital $250K–$5MM program.
