Revenue-based financing

Explore structures tied to business revenue and operating performance.

Understand the structure before comparing offers.

Revenue-based financing describes a structure connected to business revenue or operating performance. The name alone does not tell you the legal form, how payments are set or the total cost. Ask the provider to explain these in the actual agreement.

Compare cash received after fees with the full repayment or remittance obligation. Review payment frequency, duration, security requirements, any personal guarantee and early-payoff provisions. Consider the effect on cash flow during slower-revenue periods as well as a typical month.

If revenue changes, ask whether the agreement allows payment adjustments, how they are requested and what information is needed. Do not assume payments automatically fall when sales slow.

Working capital describes the funding purpose; revenue-based financing concerns the structure. For inventory, seasonal needs or receivables timing, see our working-capital guide.

Availability, structure, cost and eligibility depend on the provider and review of the business. No approval or funding terms are guaranteed.

Questions for the provider

  • Is this a loan or another financing arrangement?
  • How are payment or remittance amounts determined?
  • What is the full obligation, including fees?
  • What happens if business revenue falls?

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

Discuss the structure and cash-flow fit.

Start with a short business overview and the questions you want to compare. Use the general inquiry form without including account numbers, financial documents or other sensitive information. Do not send Social Security numbers, bank details or sensitive documents by email. A general inquiry is not a financing application or approval.
